About these tools
A document worth protecting is a document worth not uploading. That is the whole argument for doing this here: the ordinary way to put a password on a contract is to hand the unprotected contract to a stranger's server first, which is the one moment in its life when it is least protected.
Two different things get called security on a PDF and they are not close. A password stops the file opening at all: the content is encrypted and a reader without the password gets nothing. A permissions flag asks politely instead. It says printing or copying is not allowed and every reader is free to ignore it, which many do, so the tools here say which of the two you are getting.
A watermark is a third thing again, and it makes no claim to stop anybody. It marks a copy so a leak can be traced, or labels a draft so nobody signs it by mistake. Drawn into the page rather than stamped over a picture of it, so the text underneath stays selectable and the file stays the size it was.
